Auto crashes into Pineford Acres home
Staff Sgt. Eddie Shields, 32, of 10 Valley Lane was injured when his car crashed into a Pineford Acres home and broke into flames Tuesday night, shortly after 9 p.m.
Shields, stationed at Olmsted Air Force Base, was treated at the dispensary for facial cuts, a possible fracture of the right leg, cuts of the left leg and multiple bruises. He was listed in a satisfactory condition at Harrisburg Hospital, where he was transferred later.
Borough police said Shields would be charged with reckless driving. According to the report, two teenagers were showered with plaster but escaped injury when the car crashed into the home of the Thomas E. Stewart Jr. family at 4 Valley Lane. They were identified as Stewart’s daughter, Betsy, 17, and her boyfriend, Louis Souders, a prominent Blue Raider athlete.
Firemen said the car was traveling on Adelia Street, which is at the rear of the home. It jumped the curb and struck the rear corner of the dwelling and broke into flames. Firemen and a neighbor freed the injured man from the wreckage and then the burning vehicle was pulled away from the house to prevent the two-story home from igniting.
Damage to the home was estimated at about $500 and to Shield’s car, $1,500.
