Lee’s Summit dispensary will be among first in Missouri to sell medical marijuana

LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. — A dispensary in Lee’s Summit will be among the first to sell medical marijuana in Missouri. Right now, Fresh Green Dispensary is the only dispensary in the Kansas City area that’s approved to operate.

“We’re actually gonna have samples of all of the products,” said Bianca Sullivan.

The dispensary off Route 291 and Northeast Tudor Road in Lee’s Summit has become Sullivan’s second home.

“Over the summer, we basically moved into here, and we’re here 12 hours a day, every day,” she said.

She and her husband, Rob, are attorneys but have taken on a second career in the medical marijuana business. The coronavirus pandemic gave them more time to pursue their new passion, with all their trials delayed until 2021.

“The world had stopped, so we were really able to work on this full time,” Sullivan said.

Their business was officially approved to operate Oct. 1. Now, they’re waiting for product from a cultivator in eastern Missouri.

“Some of it has passed testing, more of it is still being tested,” Sullivan said. “So, we’re really very excited about that. We still don’t know when we’re going to get it.”

The dispensary will have the flower, or bud, at first, but they hope to have manufactured products in December. That includes marijuana-infused gummies, drinks, and even Christopher Elbow chocolates.

Sullivan was first introduced to medical marijuana in college as a volunteer working with AIDS patients in California. Now, she’s looking forward to helping patients here in her hometown.
