Tuesday, April 24th was recognized as” A Day of Choice” advocating for employment choices for adults with disabilities. In Missouri, this effort has been spearheaded by a group of individuals with disabilities, their parents, caregivers and coworkers, known as A Team Missouri. A Team Missouri officially formed in 2016 and quickly grew statewide. Through their campaign, “Dignity Has A Voice”, the group successfully lobbied for nearly unanimous passage of state legislation in 2017 to maintain choices for both community and sheltered employment.
HB 1290 was passed in the Senate last week as a part of a set of veterans’ bills. It will now go to the Governor for his signature. This bill requires that the POW/MIA flag be flown on state properties that have the proper poles to fly the US, Missouri and POW/MIA flags together. It also says that if they do not have a flag and one is not provided by a citizen or local VFW they are not required to fly it. The bill has no cost to the state of Missouri And this flag means a lot to all the Veterans in our area. This bill was brought to me by several Veterans from our local VFW’s.
HB 1291 was passed out of the House this week and is headed back
