Hermantown residents Miles Alton Hamel, 20, and Savannah Rhea Williams, 18, were each charged in State District Court on Feb. 23 with second-degree sale of a controlled substance, fourth-degree sale of a controlled substance in a park zone and possession of stolen property, according to a criminal complaint. Hamel remains in the St. Louis County Jail and his bail has been set at $50,000. Williams has been released from the St. Louis County Jail on $30,000 bail.
An investigation determined that the Hamel and Williams were selling large quantities of marijuana out of their residence on the 4100 block of Meadow Parkway, within a block of Stebner Park, according to the criminal complaint. During the execution of a search warrant on the residence, the Hermantown Police Department and Lake Superior Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force located about 26 pounds of marijuana, 7 pounds of butane hash oil and $27,000 in cash in several rooms of the house and in a vehicle, according to the Hermantown Police Department. Officers also seized two handguns, one of which was determined to have been reported stolen in Duluth.
